Keep a water glass or water bottle in your hand. 

As you socialize it often feels awkward without having something in your hands or during a toast, thus why calorie-filled froofy beverages or finger foods end up in our fists.  If you put water there intentionally, you will up your water intake as well as prevent something else from filling your hands and landing on your hips.
