Do not go to an event hungry and keep a sugar-free mint or gum in your mouth since you already ate.

I have to be honest, I’ve seen this tip back fire.  Friends will eat prior to the party in order to not go crazy, but then still go over board at the party.  This means they double ate, whereas if they just waited for the party, they wouldn’t have doubled up.  But if eating prior takes the edge off and helps you resist, then go for it.  Pre-eating and then putting something in your mouth (mint/gum) that you would have to spit out in order to eat more can serve as a “pause” to rethink what more you might put into your mouth.
